The second weekend of Nyitott Balaton arrives with innumerable programmes as well. We picked a few to help you: bog tour, Kultkikötő picnic, lovers' bike tour, Nyitott Handball Academy and the Ice Cream of Balaton.
Lovers' bike tour, Siófok-Balatonvilágos
On the lookout point that is the high shore of Balatonvilágos, there's neither a tower, nor a winding staircase, there are only a few benches. Still, it's situation and the panorama of the eastern part of the Lake make it one of the most pleasant lookout points, where you can just chill out in the grass and admire Lake Balaton. This is the destination of the bike tours from the Tourinform Office in Siófok's water tower on 7 and 9 May. Although the route is an ascending one, it is by no means strenuous - and for a while on the way back, you'll just have to let it roll, like Elsa does with snowballs. Ad why a lovers' bike tour? Because the lovers' bridge is found right by the Panorama lookout point in Balatonvilágos.It doesn't matter if you don't like that kind of romantic kitsch: this tour is a perfect ride for couples. Believe us, we've been there, done that.
Kultkikötő picnic, Balatonföldvár
One of the best of Balaton's summer theatres, Kultkikötő begins its 10th season this year. In preparation for their strong summer schedule, Kultkikötő invite everyone to an all-day picnic on Saturday, 9 May. Instead of dramas and concerts, here you can enjoy food and drinks, like the creations of the cookie contest, a bogrács meal, and wines by the Gutman Winery of Kötcse. And you can repaint the Kultkikötő building.
Birds and Trees Day - The birds of Kis-Balaton
The Hungarian version of Everglades, Kis-Balaton has no alligators, but it is rich in other species, especially birds. This national park area brimming with natural and historical sights is worth a visit in any time of year. For birds and trees day, birding at the Kis-Balaton with professional guidance seems just the perfect programme. Advance registration is required! You can even paddle a canoe amidst birds in the neighbouring bog, Nagyberek.
Italy and the sunny side of Lake Balaton, Keszthely
It's not necessarily impossible to mix up Italy and Balaton, just think of the Tabunello wine of Szent György-hegy or the ancient Romans and their forts and villas. At least, this is what the Balaton Museum plays at with their family day on 9 May, which will feature classic Italian cars, a photo exhibition, Roman Age archaeology, kids' programmes and a fashion show at 4 PM. Add the Judit Halász concert to your list, and the kids' day will be perfect.
Lantern-lit beach party, Balatongyörök
The beaches around Lake Balaton will open on 15 May, although the slightly cold water might still keep you from dipping. Balatongyörök steals a march at the opening: on 9 May, they will light up the Györök beach with lanterns for a party with live music. The programme begins at sunset, and everyone's a guest for the music by the Balaton Old Boys, a glass of wine and scones.
Ice Cream of Balaton 2015
The Ice Cream of Balaton 2015 will finally be uncovered on Saturday! Will it be the Kőszárhegy orda cheese with basil orange purée from Balatonalmádi or the chestnut dream by the title holder Florida fagyizó in Balatonmáriafürdő? Welovebalaton.hu introduced you to the competitors, so all that's left to do is a tour of the ice cream parlours before the results come out.
Wine Triathlon Pt.1 - Pinot gris tour, Badacsony
Badacsony yet again organizes a Wine Triathlon, in which sportsmanship is measurable in the quantity of wine drunk. The first stop of the Triathlon is the Pinot gris tour on 9 an 10 May, from 10 AM on both days - in the frame of which you can taste -surprise, surprise - the pinot gris of the participating Badacsony celllars.There is no competition without prizes, which you might also win by collecting as many wine labels as possible.
