The European Environment Agency inspected over 21 000 bathing waters in the EU, including 244 bathing waters in Hungary. Good news is, 77% of the Hungarian waters were marked as excellent, and a further 18% were marked as good.
It is, however, not as great that three bathing waters around Lake Balaton were assessed as sufficient only:
- Koloska Marina Strandfürdő (last year: excellent)
- Diási Játékstrand (last year: sufficient)
- Alsógyenesi Strand (last year: sufficient)
The situation is slightly awkward in the case of Gyenesdiás, since the family-friendly Diási átJékstrand (that has all the imaginable play options and a splasher bay) has been included among the best beaches of Balaton for years. The waters of the beach in Keszthelyi Bay were listed as sufficient and the guests of Gyenesdiás won't be better off a beach away, since the Alsógyenes Beach was also deemed only compliant with mandatory values.
