Last year we started a series introducing talented, Balaton-based photographers and their amazing photos, and we thought we’d continue featuring them this year as well. We begin with Péter Orbán, who enjoys capturing the many different faces of the lake. When we told him there were plenty of nice photos of Badacsony online, and it was hard to find new subjects, a couple of days later he sent us a set of pictures taken of the monadnocks of the Balaton Uplands full of infinite poppy fields. We’re now convinced we were wrong.
- Péter Orbán is turning 30 this year. He got his first camera when he was a teenager, but he didn’t start taking photography seriously until he bought his first DSLR.
- He’s based in Balatonrendes, and his family lives here, too, so he’s got strong ties to the Hungarian Sea. His favorite locations include the top of Csobánc Hill, Bagoly Rock in Ábrahámhegy, and the Káli Basin, of course.
- He’s obsessed with nature photography: his most frequent subjects are the Balaton Uplands and the monadnocks and surroundings of the Káli Basin and the Tapolca Basin. The below gallery also showcases this region in early summer with heaps and heaps of poppies.
- He’s inspired by a number of famous photographers from a variety of different genres: he likes the style of self-made photographer Balázs Czakó, who shot a cool series about the Paks Power Plant, Finnish nightlife photographer Mikko Lagerstedt, and Krzysztof Browko, known for his Tuscan landscapes.
- Once he was sitting on a ruinous castle wall on Csobánc Hill, taking photos of the panorama, and the next day he received an email with a photo of himself perched on the wall. It turned out that he was spotted by another vigilant photographer from Gyulakeszi.
- You can find his Facebook page here, and his homepage here.
