After the successful first rounds, fish will take centre stage in the capital again in February, thanks to the 3rd Budapest Fish Festival. The special guests of the festival are Balaton and zander. Thanls to the growing number of visitors, the festival has had to move up in terms of venue every year, now, it is hosted by Vajdahunyad's Castle.

To make lovers of fish dishes happy, the team of the Hortobágy Fish Farm will come again, and the two capitals of fish soup, Szeged and Baja will also send delegates.

The selection of the “big fish” will be spiced up by Budapest restaurants and popular street food places. Balaton is the highlighted region of the 3rd Budapest Fish Festival, and the pike-perch has been chosen as the festival’s fish. At the traditional event Hungarian cuisine will meet international fish creations, so visitors will get the chance to taste not only Balaton specialties, but also Asian food, French fish soup, Russian caviar and unique Bulgarian and Portuguese dishes. A singular gastronomical experience awaits: the fish soup will be simmering away in a 5,000 liter cauldron, and after the great success of last year the fishermen of Tiszalök will once again grill catfish on the spot.

Keeping up with tradition, vendors will be selling their treats at half price in the spirit of Fat Thursday, and on Saturday a cooking contest will round off the festivities. This year adults will not be the only ones with a stake in a competition, as a creative contest for primary and secondary school students will also be held with a grand prize of a Balaton class trip.
