In 2015, the Star District Championship opens the sailing season in Balatonföldvár. The District Championship of 9 countries is held between 1 and 4 May.
The first star class sailboat Star was designed in 1911. The class is popular on both sea and inland waters. The sailboats of the class have large a mainsail and a 400-kg keel, allowing for extreme hiking positions. Hungary has 4 fleets: Budapest, Balaton, Koloska and Öreghegy. Boats can qualify to the international District competitions from the fleet championships. Hungary is part of District 17, together with Ukraine, Russia, Armenia, Bayern, Austria, the Czech Republic, Croatia and Slovenia.
