The Mendelssohn Chamber Orchestra was founded in 1985 in Veszprém under the leadership of violinist Péter Kováts. The repertoire of the ensemble is wonderfully diverse, including pieces from the Baroque and Classical periods, the most important works of the 20th century, and contemporary music. The orchestra has toured extensively in Europe and overseas, and received the Bartók-Pásztory Award for its artistic achievements in 2010.
