Little Hungaropedia gifts
One of this year's trendiest souvenir bundle spiced with self-irony and humour, the Little Hungaropedia series was released last week by We Love Publishing. Luckily for us, the originator, graphic artist Zsófi Szabó, who dedicated a separate booklet to Lake Balaton with the title Little Balatonopedia, has also created various designer gifts to accompany the series.
You can buy the booklets separately, but the 6-piece set arrives in a fancy and practical sleeve, so you can put it without further ado underneath the Christmas tree. Ski pass to the Eplény SkiArena
Give the gift of 1927 meters. The Nordica SkiArena in Eplény has the longest pista in Hungary; it puts altogether 16 ski pistes and a 449-metre sledding course at your disposal, although the latter opens only in case a huge amount of natural snow piles up. Some of the snow cannoned pistes are also open at night, and you can also participate in Wednesday VIP Night Skiing, which offers extra services and allows only 250 skiers on the pistes..
For the beginners, we recommend the training pistes-only ticket, but there are various types of passes from the 2-day pass to the season photocard, of which there is also a transferable version. You can also participate in ski courses or rent a ski (or snowboard), and pay by cash, bank card, PayPass or Széchenyi Card.
Nagyon Balaton festival tickets
The 2014 edition of the Nagyon Balaton event series entertained us with 24 different events, including bg guns, like the Balaton Sound in Zamárdi (now seriously testing its limits), the B.my.Lake magicked into the woods around the ruling party's summer resort in Balatonaliga, or the also Zamárdi-based Strand Festival that brought back the vibes of long-gone Sziget Festivals and has become the favourite event to play for many a Hungarian performer - in spite of the sea of mud.
The Nagyon Balaton portfolio includes sports and gastronomy-related events as well as family programs and cool art festivals like the ARTPlacc under the gorgeous Tihany trees or the still popular Valley of Arts in the Káli Basin. This year has taught us to acquire a pair of cheap Wellingtons as well when buying a ticket or pass. It might come in handy in the coming years, too.
