Tobruk is an ancient port and city in Lybia; it has a gorgeous beach, but it belongs to Balatonfűzfő. True story. A part of Balatonfűzfő and a Lybian port share the exact same name. One part of Balatonfűzfő was named after the Lybian city. No one knows the reason why. According to the website of Balatonfűzfő's local government the homes for the workers of the paper factory were constructed at the time when the Germans held Tobruk under siege. Somehow the locals started to use the name for the area.
Another explanation sounds much better, though. The chauffeur of the factory's manager used to serve in the foreign legion, and when he saw the new buildings, he said: "This is exactly, like Tobruk!”
