The dream of beachgoers has been a reality for a while at the end of Balatonmáriafürdő’s Szabadság utca: if you can see long ramparts jutting into the lake, a pebbly promenade, and pretty, retro-style benches, you’ve arrived at the public beach.
The lawn is nicely cut, there’s a bathroom and a playground for the kids. The water is quite shallow toward the shore, so you can enjoy the panorama of the north shore as you walk toward the deep.
The quiet beach has one drawback: there are no buffets or eateries, which means you’ll have to bring your own picnic basket.
