Balatonszárszó’s public beach is one of the legendary beaches around the Hungarian Sea: everything can be found here that is indispensible to the genuine Balaton beach experience, such as Süsü Festival at the nearby theatre, a water contest for the strongest of strong people, a fröccs bus that plays music, an open-air stage and the ubiquitous retro of the south shore in a more digestible form. There are paddling bays for the kids, as well as a shady section colloquially dubbed the giga sandpit where you can build the perfect sand castle. A playground has also been set up on the beach.

The locals swear that the water here is softer and feels more gentle against the skin than anywhere else as it has a higher concentration of magnesium and calcium. Like most Balaton beaches, this one has plenty of food stands and sports fields, and the best thing is that it’s located right next to the railway station, so you can dive right in a mere 5 minutes after you get off the train. In 2015 an new car park was added to the facilities of the town where all car parks can be used free of charge.
