This public beach in Berzsenyi út is one of the Balaton beaches most reminiscent of the lake’s glory days: the slightly pioneer camp-like atmosphere, the 70s buildings and the archetypal yellow entrance will evoke nostalgia, even in those who cannot remember a thing from before the change of regime. The ancient, giant outdoor chessboard, the goals set up in the water and the shabby open-air stage are relics of the past, while some of the more recent features include a playground in line with EU standards, a streetball court and an adventure spa, which is quite a special attraction in the region.
Those arriving by boat or train only need to take a short walk to the beach. On Szemes’ 5.5-km shore there are several non-paying sections and even romantic guerrilla beaches, but the one in Berzsenyi út offers the most services.
You’ll have to walk a good 6-7 minutes before the water gets deep enough for a swim. It’s a bit annoying that there are huge stones all over the shore except for a few narrow sections, so if you’re a fan of lido beaches, you should choose Napfény Beach instead. Feeling hungry?
