Tihany’s Open-air Museum of Ethnography is basically a collection old peasants’ houses located in the centre of the village. The houses on Pisky sétány and Batthyány utca have whitewashed walls and thatched roofs, exuding a romantic vibe. Take a peek inside to see how peasants lived in the 18-19th centuries.
The house of the peasant farmer, the fishermen’s guild and the house of pottery each provide a glimpse into each profession respectively. The buildings are authentic not only on the outside, but inside as well; the shed by the house of the fishermen’s guild contains tools of the trade whose functions you’d probably have a hard time guessing.
Restored to their original state, all houses are open to visitors, while the rest of the landmark buildings are occupied by residents or used for tourism purposes.
