The observation tower on top of Gulya-domb was reconstructed in 2016, after the original wooden structure had been badly damaged over the years. The trail that leads to the tower starts at the zoo’s parking lot, from there it takes about 15 minutes to get to the lookout with the help of maps.
The steel rods twisting in all directions on the exterior of the new building make it look just like a miniature skyscraper. If you want to look really smart, don’t forget to mention to the others on the way that the exact shape of the tower is a one-sheeted hyperboloid.
Towering on the edge of the town’s forest park, the 17.5-meter edifice has a wonderful view of Benedek-hegy, the castle district, the viaduct, and the hills of Bakony. The surrounding forest is an ideal environment for a variety of recreational and sports activities, regardless of whether you arrive on horseback, by bike, with your kids or with your dog.
