The artisan winery of Stephan Spiegelberg advertises itself with the slogan “Wine tasting, catering, and accommodation on the St. Helena Wine Route”. The eccentric vintner of a Hungarian mother and a German father lives in Somlójenő; despite the small size of his business, his Juhfark already granted him a place on the TOP 100 list of one of the world’s leading professional magazines.
Besides the Juhfark, Stephan builds his selection on Welschriesling and Furmint, and makes incredibly fleshy and concentrated wines from them. You can experience true rustic hospitality when you visit him: you can taste bean goulash cooked in earthenware pots, stew cooked in cauldron, various oven-baked meals, or you can fry bacon on an open fire. The wine tasting lists have 3, 6, 9, or 12 items, starting with wines from younger vintages going towards older ones. You can stay on the estate for a fair price, and if it's requested, the host can take guests on a guided tour in the area.
