One of the biggest stupas in Europe can be found near Zalaszántó, on the 316-metre tall Világosvár hill. Built in 1992, the Peace Stupa is 30 metres tall and 24 metres wide. Inside you’ll find the teachings and relics of Buddha as well as a 24-metre tall tree of life.
The stupa symbolizes the spirit and wisdom of Buddha and his sympathy and love for all creatures. It is also a symbol of peace, happiness and enlightenment.
The stupa was inaugurated by the Dalai Lama in 1993. The building was renovated in 2006. Buddhist teachers hold regular meditation and yoga classes in the stupa.
