The most outstanding Romanesque-era monument in the Balaton region would definitely have to be the provostial church of Felsőörs. Built in the 13th century, the church has been damaged many times over the years: one time it even burned down, and was reconstructed in Baroque style, the signs of which are still detectable on the windows, for example. Due to its special architectural significance, the building is also a popular hiking destination. If you find yourself in the area, make sure to visit the sister town Alsóör to check out the pub cinema or the lookout tower on Csere-hegy.

Here's a top tip: It's worth taking a closer look at the gate. Not only is it a fine example of Romanesque architecture, but it's also adorned with masterfully carved motifs of animals and people.
