Known colloquially as the viaduct of Veszprém, St. Stephen’s Viaduct has been the symbol of the town since December 1937. The 185-meter long structure, which was erected not too far from Veszprém Zoo, is the first and one of the biggest viaducts in Hungary: its highest point is almost 40 meters tall. While it shows signs of slight decay, the illuminated viaduct, the most spectacular section of main road 8, is an imposing figure in the Veszprém night. The first thing those approaching from the north see between the pillars is a peek of the Castle District’s towers.
