Balaton from above: Őrtorony Lookout Tower in Tihany

This three-storey lookout tower between Tihany and Sajkod also has a view of Lake Belső and Lake Külső.

Opened in 2017, Őrtorony Lookout Tower is hidden among the trees of Apáti-hegy near Tihany. The tower was built along the old Roman military road. In clear weather, you can see almost everything between Balatonfüred, Balatonföldvár and Balatonudvari, including the lakes of Tihany, lavender fields and the bay of Sajkod.

To get there, leave Road 71 and go through Sajkod until you reach the end of Mályva utca. From there, a gravel-covered dirt road leads to the lookout tower. For cyclists, there’s also a trail that starts from the car park of Lake Belső and leads through the Old Lavender Field, while hikers can follow a path that starts in Apáti.
