One of Balaton’s biggest resorts, Balatonfüred is gearing up for the upcoming summer season by either banning cars or significantly reducing traffic from three main streets close to the lake. Work has already begun on the widening of pavements and restaurant terraces along Kisfaludy utca, parallel to the main lakeside promenade of Tagore sétány.

With Balaton looking forward to the first summer without pandemic restrictions for two years, the main resort on the north shore, Balatonfüred, is making its busy hub significantly more pedestrian-friendly.

Parking will be prohibited along Kisfaludy utca and only permit holders will be able to enter by car. This is where you find the Kisfaludy Gallery and the town’s main outdoor venue for concerts, the Balatonfüred Szabadtéri Színpad.

Cars will be banned completely from parallel Blaha Lujza utca, adjoining the main square of Gyógy tér, location of key restaurant, the Horváth House Wine Gallery, and the historic Anna Grand Hotel. At right-angles to Blaha Lujza utca, Zsigmond utca will also be made car-free.
