At first glance you may think that this roadside eatery by the beach of Sajkod doesn’t offer more than French fries straight from the freezer, but that is not the case at all.

After the premises were renovated in 2004, owner Zita quit her job as an accountant, and launched Apáti Restaurant. To make sure that not only the ledger is in order, they work with seasonal and local ingredients. The very first menu of the eatery was created by Lajos Takács, the legendary chef who used to work at Olimpia and Lacipecsenye.

Since then the kitchen of Apáti has been run by a new, young chef, but the attitude hasn’t changed: pizzas and Mediterranean pastas are part of the selection, but the Hungarian pork cutlet with paprika, garlic, and bacon, called “Gypsy roast” is made from chuck steak confit, and duck liver pâté steamed in Tokaji is served with wine jelly.
