We all know that stereotype about winter being an ugly, gray, hopelessly sad season, which makes it hard to imagine that the weather could ever be nice again, but then one day you decided to pop down to Lake Balaton, and realize that it’s not all as bad as that.
Why are we so optimistic? Because when we last visited Vonyarcvashegy, we were greeted by such glorious sunshine that we seriously thought we traveled not only 200 km, but also skipped two seasons. Once again it became apparent to us that any event that has the weather on its side can only be a marvelous affair:
The reason we were headed for Vonyarc and Bock Bistro in particular was the launch of the new gastro map of the Balaton Uplands. You may have heard about this initiative before when the first map, showcasing a different part of the region, was published a little while ago.
The autumn edition of the map gave visitors an insight into the best places to try in and around Balatonfüred, Csopak, and Tihany, and the new version now includes an additional 20 catering businesses located between the Káli Basin and Keszthely. What’s the lesson to learn from both publications? Balaton has plenty of awesome places to grab a bite in the colder months, but keeping an eye out for the “lángos” signs at the beach is not the way to find them.
The brand new map gives great answers to the question “What on Earth can you do at Lake Balaton in winter?” by listing all the must-visit venues from the popular heavyweights of the Káli Basin, the legendary tavern of Attila Bakos, and Vonyarc’s renowned chapel to places of interest located somewhat further from the shore, such as Sümeg or Somló.
If you’ve been with us long you’ll no doubt know there’s nothing more relaxing than contemplating the mysteries of the world on the terrace of Gergő Istvándy, boosting Hungarian-Canadian relations at Gilvesy Winery, or admiring the landscape around the terrace of the Laposa team, but it’s good to have all this valuable information available in one place.
