Tapolcai-medence (Tapolcai Basin) is surrounded by a wreath of extinct volcanoes, and in the middle of it is the town it was named after. The atmosphere of the sub-Mediterranean area mostly comes from the nearby buttes and castle ruins, and these can all be toured through a moderately difficult bicycle trail from Badacsony to Haláp.
